Required properties are missing from object
Power BIA file in the report's definition folder has an object without a property its schema requires. The message names the file, the missing property, and the JSON path and line of the object. Microsoft counts a missing required property as a blocking error, so the report does not open until it is fixed.
How the message appears
Copied exactly from each source. A name in square brackets replaced one from someone else's project.
Error Message: 'pages/[page folder]/visuals/[visual folder]/visual.json': Required properties are missing from object: name. Path 'filterConfig.filters[2]', line 342, position 7.
In general form, with the parts that change in brackets:
'[file]': Required properties are missing from object: [property]. Path '[path]', line [n], position [n].
The fix
Open the file the message names, go to the line it gives, and add the missing property. A filter's name must not match the name of any other filter in the report.

What causes it
An object lost a property its schema requires
In the quoted case a filter in a visual's filterConfig.filters list has no name. The poster had saved the report in Power BI Desktop and could not open it again. Microsoft Learn says changes made outside Power BI Desktop can also cause it.

The Report Doctor finds this. It reports “A file differs from its schema”, with the file and line.
Worth knowing
- The Report Doctor reports a missing required property as a schema warning, with the file and line, because a schema is not exactly what Power BI Desktop opens.
Check a project in your browser
The Power BI Report Doctor reads a PBIP folder or .zip and lists the file and line to fix. Nothing is uploaded.
